天津医学高等专科学校是一所专科层次的普通高等学校，有近百年护理教育历史。多年来，学校在专业建设、师资队伍、人才培养、就业分配等方面取得显著成就，为医疗卫生事业输送了大批实用型医学人才。学校传承严谨、求实、创新、奉献的教育传统，突出能力为本位的教学特色，以护理学科建设为重点，荟萃医、护、管、技、药各学科协调发展，其中护理专业分别在2001年和2002年被教育部确定为“国家级教学改革试点专业”和“全国高职高专精品专业建设项目”；2003年又被教育部等国家七部委确定为“国家级技能型紧缺人才培养基地”。学校教育实行院校结合，打造产学研一体化办学平台，基本形成培养实用型卫生技术人才的医学高职高专教育体系。
　　2004年学校新校区建设被列为天津市卫生资源调整重点项目，2005年初学校整体搬迁至新校址河西区柳林路14号。目前校园一期工程占地面积400多亩，建筑面积近12万平方米，教学规模不断扩大，教学环境全面改善。学校设有护理系、临床医学系、药学系、公共卫生与卫生事业管理系、基础医学教学部、公共课教学部、网络信息管理中心等教学机构和基础医学研究室、医学教育研究室、医院管理研究室等科研部门，开办高级护理、高级助产、临床医学、口腔医学、针灸推拿、康复医学、药学、医学美容、营养与食品卫生、精神卫生、医疗保险、医学检验技术、医学影像技术等13个专业，在校生4000多人。学校拥有一所三级甲等附属医院和32所各级各类实训实习基地，先后与日本神户大学医学部保健学科、芬兰图尔库工业技术大学建立友好校际关系，广泛开展教育科学研究和对外学术交流。学校始终坚持“把学生培养成为人文精神与科学素养、创造能力统一的实用型医学人才，既会做事，又会做学问，更会做人。”的学校理念，以服务为宗旨，以就业为导向，使学生学习在就业岗位上，就业于学习环境中。近年来，毕业生就业率稳定保持在98%以上，大批毕业生成为许多医疗机构的业务骨干。

　　Tianjin Medical College is a vocational college of higher education with nearly a hundred years’ history of nursing　education. In recent years the college has made great achievements in program development, staff building, talent training and employment, and has sent a great many practical professionals to health institutes. With rigour, practice, innovation and dedication as its education tradition, with ability training as its teaching characteristic, and with development of nursing program as its focus, the college has achieved coordinated growth of many disciplines such as medicine, nursing, administration, technique and pharmacy. Of them, the nursing program was approved by the Ministry of Education as State Trial Program of Teaching Reform and Development Project of National Quality Program of Vocational Colleges in 2001 and 2003, and was established by the Ministry of Education and other six ministries as State Training Base of Professionals with Technical Ability in Short Supply in 2003. 　　The new campus of the college was among the Key Projects of Heath Resource Readjustment in Tianjin. The whole college moved into the new campus at 14 Liulin Rd, Hexi District at the beginning of 2005. The first stage campus construction works completed currently occupies an area of more than 400 Mu, of which the building area is nearly 120,000 square meters. The teaching scale has been increasingly enlarged and the learning environment has been entirely improved. The college consists of teaching departments including Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Hygiene and Heath Care Administration, Basic Medicine, General Subjects, and Net and Information Management Center, and researching sections including Basic Medical Research Office, Medical Education Research Office, Hospital Administration Research Office. The college opens 13 programs which include higher nursing, higher midwifery, clinical medicine, dental care, acupuncture, moxibustion and massage, rehabilitation, pharmacy, medical cosmetology, nutrition and food hygiene, mental heath, medical insurance, medical laboratory technique, and medical radiography, with over 4000 students on campus. The college has a class-3 grade-A hospital as its affiliated hospital and 32 training and practice bases on different levels.
